As my name says, I am new to Vegan. It's a health thing for me - if I win: no Rx, if my doc wins: Rx. I have always enjoyed cooking and this just opens up a whole new arena for me. I am diluting my husband's eating habits with my new found education and am just waiting for him to admit he feels better. I love color on a plate and spice (not necessarily heat). Some things that I have only considered seasoning for exotic dishes (i.e., turmeric, cardamom) can be considered medicinal! What do you know! I just got three new vegan cookbooks (one for idiots) and have been scouring the internet for information and am truly thrilled with the amount available. Thank you fellow cooks!
A couple of months ago I would have listed a variety of meats, but no more. If I get the urge for a hot dog (because I LUV mustard) I have a tofu hot dog on pita loaded with mustard. My favorite sandwich is a boca burger with a topped portabello, both flipped in a hot pan, topped with veggie cheese on sprouted sourdough dressed with avocado, tomato and romaine. I don't have a favorite cookbook - I have too many! And they're all loaded with little yellow post-its marking favorites and potentials. My "famous" dishes are taco salad - which I can recreate as a vegan dish no sweat - and macaroni and cheese - which will be a little tough, but if I do it, I'll post it!
Vive la vegan!
