I am passionate about FOOD. I love to cook (and don't mind the cleanup) and I love to eat!!
I come from a family where everyone has an obsession with food. It was a big source of frustration when I was younger. My mother & grandmother would plan their menus days ahead and they would discuss every aspect of the meal to no end - "How should we cut the carrots? Should we dice it, grate it or slice it?" , "Should we serve tea with milk & sugar or should we add tea masala? Will it seem like a repeat from breakfast?" and so on and so forth.. And, now I find myself thinking of the same things although I dare not say it loud
I guess an apple does not fall too far from the tree after all..
This past year, I also started reading books about food and furthering my obsession. My favorites so far have been (just to name a few):
- Heat, Bill Buford
- Julie & Julia, Julie Powell
- Are you really going to eat that?, Robb Walsh
- Garlic and Sapphires, Ruth Reichl
- Comfort Me with Apples, Ruth Reichl
I am currently reading - Tender at the Bone, Ruth Reichl
I also love collecting cookbooks, kitchen appliances, and serving pieces.
My challenge is in packing a healthy lunch for my son who attends elementary school.
I admire people who have taken a chance in life to do what they love for a living. And, I hope to be one of them someday soon
In my order of preference -
1. Indo - Chinese food (Have not found any good restaurants in Pittsburgh that serve anything close)
2. Authentic Mangalorean konkani dishes
3. Thai
4. Moroccan
5. Italian antipasti
