about me

I live in beautiful Red Deer Alberta Canada. We love this little city, it is not too big and has everything we need. We are less than 2 hours drive from larger centres of Edmonton and Calgary. We may live in a prarie province but being along the river valley we enjoy much green parkland in the summer with lots of walking trails and cross-country ski trails in the winter. I work as the supervisor in the best child care centre in Central Alberta. The staff are great, the children are fabulous. Our cook is wonderful and works hard to provide the children with wholesome homemade cooking everyday. I still love Betty Crocker, the Company's coming is a close second. I just find these cookbooks provide everything I need and then when I want to get creative I check out magazines and web sites like this one. I love to experiment with my cooking and get frustrated when I can't try some recipes because some members in our house are rather picky. I wait for days when they aren't at home to go crazy with held back recipe dreams. Right now I am looking at how to adjust my regular recipes to go with a new healthier diet and fitness program. I have lost 26lbs and 34in since July (6 mos). This can be tricky for someone who loves to cook and enjoys baking as I do. I come from a heritage of good cooking both my grandmothers were incredible cooks. My mother ran a teahouse/bed and breakfast for several years and my husbands Oma was a cook in Germany. From my mother-in-law I have learned some fabulous German dishes and Torte recipes along with other yummy holiday treats. I love my two kids and having fun with them. Now that they are teens we don't have as much time to play as we used to since they are busy with their work, friends and many other activities. We have an adorable, black, miniature schnauzer named Banjo who brings a lot of fun and entertainment to our family.

Favorite Foods:

I really like chicken, it is so versatile and lends itself to any season or celebration. I think my favorite chicken dish is Sweet and Sour Chicken - I adapted a recipe from a Betty Crocker Sweet'n sour Meat ball recipe.

I am well known for my deep dish pizzas that I often make for families that need a little help with meals for various reasons. It beats the usual casserols and they can freeze the pizzas and have them when they are ready to eat them.

Italian food is something I really enjoy and the last time we were in Edmonton we discovered a great little place called Pazzo Pazzo. The food was delicious, the waiter attentive and entertaining. We had a most enjoyable evening.
