Hello and thank you for dropping by.
I have been a parasite on this site for a year now. I read, cook, eat and review but have yet to post a recipe. It’s mostly due to my being a ‘by the seat of my pants’ type person. I make many great dishes just rarely the same way twice and even more rarely measure. I just keep adding butter, cream, wine, whatever, until I like the taste. With /09 approaching, part of my New Years resolutions is to make this relationship more symbiotic. Dinner takes forever now as I am trying to measure and write down the method and ingredients. My BH has suggested that I start cooking at 3pm so just maybe we can eat by 8
I was born in England, immigrated to Canada and went back and forth through 17 schools. That I can print my own name is a marvel! My father grew up in India so dinner at our house was often an adventure. Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding one day, Vindaloo the next. Left-overs were bizarre. With my grandmother, mother and father all commandeering the kitchen I ended up married at 19 with zero cooking skills. My one dish of pork chops with mashed potatoes got tired very quickly so I just started adding food colouring to the potatoes for a change. DH drew the line at green potatoes. Many years and hundreds of cookbooks later I am considered a good cook by those I feed. My goal in my 20’s was to eat and drink my way around the world and although I have lived in Turkey for 18 months, the Caribbean for a year as well as having travelled to many more places for lesser durations I estimate I will have to live to 165 years old to achieve my goal ![]()
I AM taking vitamins!
I live in south western Ontario in a miniature house with my BH and our 3 fur kids. My hobbies include but are not restricted to; gardening, horseback riding, cooking, golf, travel and a myriad of canine sports. I tend to spread myself a little thin so I do some things reasonably well but nothing brilliantly.
After a year I have realized that my previous rating 'system' was erratic and not necessarily helpful. I have just joined my first PAC and have decided that some uniformity is in order. I am going with the suggestions of Zaar and using the following;
5 stars - it was outstanding
(my addition -for it's type be it Beef Wellington or Mac 'n Cheese)
4 stars - We loved it
3 stars - We liked it
You will never see a 1 or 2 star rating from me. I would chalk those meals up to different tastes, an error on my part or simply a poor choice of recipes for us.
Having been on this site for a year I can honestly say I have never met a more gracious, helpful and generous group of people. You all give so freely of your time and advise - hugs to you all.

Seafood Fettucine, actually ALL seafood. Thia, Japanese & Chinese foods. Actually there is very little that I do not like ![]()
