about me

Rowan and Liam

After I became a Baha'i, I began studying other world religions. In a copy of the Bhagavad Gita As It Is, I came across a plate depicting three eating styles. The beatific vegetarian and the creepy carnivores really affected me and I went down to dormitory dinner 10 minutes later a vegetarian. That lasted until winter break. LOL. But I went back to it and was a vegetarian for many years.

I’m going back to being vegetarian after a 5-year hiatus. I married into a family of a man-who-hunts (obviously a meat-eater) and two picky step-sons. I have an 11yo son from my first marriage, who was thrilled to get meat more often (sigh), and we have a 3yo son and a 1yo son. Five boys all together.

I didn’t want to have to cook two separate meals every night. But my step-sons are often doing their own thing these days and (thanks to Recipezaar!) I have discovered that I actually enjoy cooking! I’ll be looking for meals/recipes that can feed meat-eaters and vegetarians at the same time.

If you want to know about the Baha'i Faith, please go here: http://www.bahai.us/ or send me a zmail.

Favorite Foods:

I love Indian food! Especially lunch buffet, because for One Low Price, you can get some of everything! Wheee! Mango Lassi! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I recently went and my 3yo asked me, "what's that?" "Galub Jamun." "euw." LOL.

Foodie books I recommend are:

Garlic and Sapphires: The Secret Life of a Critic in Disguise by Ruth Reichl
She describes food in such a way as I had never imagined food could even be thought of. It was like art or music.

Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously by Julie Powell
This is really funny (but the language is a bit "colorful" ). She decided to cook everything in a Julia Child cookbook in one year.

Don't Try This At Home: Culinary Catastrophes from the World's Greatest Chefs by Kimberly Witherspoon and Andrew Friedman
Funny.
