I am a former high school kitchen worker. I think that is a better word than "cook" as we only heat up the food.
I like to fish, garden, make fruit wine, raise bees, pick berries, and of course cook. I like to volunteer at the food bank and at local community dinners. I like to collect recipes for foods that I have a lot of and can easily get, hence fish, zucchini, local berries and rhubarb are very popular items on my availability list. I don't have much of a knack for making up my own recipes, so this site has been wonderful as I used to stick to around a dozen different recipes. Before I got married, Top ramen and mac and cheese in a box were my usual foods.
This summer 2009, my DH and I are moving to McGrath, Alaska (on the Iditarod trail) to spend our first of many years there. We will be living a semi-primitive life, only electricity for appliances, no indoor plumbing and wood only for heat.
In my spare time, I sew, crochet and knit.

I will try any food once. I tend to have an iron stomach and I like spicy foods. I have even eaten porcupine and red squirrel. I cook mostly from scratch and wish I could cook and eat more, but my figure would not be good then. I have lost almost 80 lbs learning how to eat smaller portions and low calorie.
It's been fun trying new recipes and ingredients. Check out my tried and true cookbook for recipes that I like. I will be experimenting with shelf stable and dried foods to help with preparing meals because it is hard to get some foods, so I will let you know how they work with recipes over time.
