about me

Well, it seems there simply are no photos of me without sun glasses, and finding one without a hat to boot was a bit of a challenge! This implies the fact that I think that the sun is, really, slightly evil and prefer to hide from it. (And also, apparently, that we only take photos 1) outside, b) when it's sunny.)

I'm a linguist: my day job is research but I also do some translating and editing work. I co-host the Scandinavian forum here on Zaar with Lilla, come and visit!

I love recipes. I'm not an intuitive cook at all and cannot do a thing in the kitchen on instinct - gimme ingredient lists, amounts and directions and I'll be very happy! I'm slowly developing a bit of a sense for how things work, but I don't think I'll be developing original recipes anytime soon (and I'm far more likely to come up with a cake recipe than anything in the main dish arena - I'm really more of a baker)! In addition to eating, baking and cooking (in that order ), I love cats (have two!), Kate Bush's music and Terry Pratchett's books.

Favorite Foods:

Chicken smetana casserole, chickpea curry and Cuban black beans. I LOVE Indian food. As far as Finnish cuisine goes, I love a good elk or reindeer stew with mashed potatoes, and warm Karelian pasties with egg butter.

I have a sweet tooth the size of Mount Everest. Love chocolate, cinnamon rolls and cheesecake. I'm also very passionate about salmiakki, salted black liquorice (for lack of a better term ).

And, I think sparkling wine goes well with *everything*.
