I've retired early (quite early, lucky me) and am living happily as a housewife in the English countryside (having grown up in rural Pennsylvania). This leaves me time to explore new recipes and keep on top of the family's nutrition. We are all eating rather healthy at the moment, exercising and enjoying improving weight and health.
I've followed Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle program and so built up a number of clean eating, high protein recipes. I have recently read and learned about the Metabolic Typing Diet and Dax Moy's Elimination Diet, so I'm now eating more cleanly (no tins, very little sugar, no vegetable oil, whole food as much as possible), but with more variety. I'm enjoying butter and meat, even sausage!
My favourite cookbooks right now are any by Barbara Cousins (Cooking Without) and Coming Home to Eat: Wholefood for the Family by Jude Blereau. She uses unrefined sugar and spelt flour, among other things.
My best source for nutrition information now is Antonio Valladares, of The Healthy Urban Kitchen. His blogs are great!
I love to bake, and my family likes treats, so we have cookies, muffins, and new-to-me English desserts sometimes, too. I make some nice cakes and brownies without sugar now!
My life also allows time for my other passions, reading and gardening.
