I am an American of Anglo-Saxon paternal stock mixed with European and Indonesian maternal stock, and a convert to Islam married to an Egyptian. Confused yet? Not surprisingly, I have an eclectic taste for food.
Nothing compares to the subtle spices of Indonesian dishes like Beef Rendang, Smoor (Chicken), Pisang Goreng (Fried Bananas) and Bami Goreng, (Fried Noodles), I also like Indian and Pakistani dishes although I don't know a thing about cooking them.
The king of desserts has to be Arabian-style desserts with their syrupy, nutty richness! Im fond of some Arabian dishes, particularly Lebanese-style grilled meats.
I have a special love of rice pudding, my grandfather was a Dutchman who apparently was also fond of preparing rice pudding. Because of him I am also familiar with random Dutch foods like mersches (hagelslag--chocolate sprinkles served between buttered sandwich bread---not kidding).
