about me

I live in southern California, about 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean. I'm a retired (early) nurse, now working at an antique mall--the ultimate fun/hobby job for me! I am also a clergy person.
I enjoy traveling, but haven't had the time for much, and my latest craft/project is restoring old lamps. My husband makes the rounds at thrift shops for "used and abused" lamps, and challenges me to make them like new. He has found some "doozies", but I've yet to find one I couldn't reclaim.
I am married for 28 years, have five children and four grandchildren, a Pekingese that thinks she's a Rottweiler, and a grouchy old cat.
I enjoy gardening, and even in the tiny back yard of my town house, I manage to grow tomatoes and green beans each year, along with as many flowering plants as I can squeeze into the limited space. I enjoy cooking for people and sharing recipes. My all-time favorite cookbook is Betty Crocker's Cookie Book. It is a classic!
If I had a month off and money to burn, I'd spend the time in San Francisco---my favorite city. I've definitely "left my heart" there!

Favorite Foods:

I'd be hard-pressed to name a particular favorite dish that I cook---half the fun is in testing new recipes with family and friends. Texas Sheet Cake has to be in the Top Ten, along with a big pot of Chicken Tortilla Soup amd Tamal Casserole. I'm known in my family for preparing a dish that you either love or hate---Sloop (aka California Casserole). My family is divided on this recipe, but that means all the more for those of us who enjoy it (lol). I found the recipe, years ago in the local newspaper.Perhaps you know "Sloop" by another name---the recipe contains frozen mixed vegetables, stewed tomatoes, ground beef and elbow pasta.
My favorite cuisine is Thai, and Thai Nakorn Restaurant is locally the best.I have only tried making a few Thai recipes----I prefer to leave that for the experts (lol).
