about me

I was fortunate to have a great career (in which I was way too much a workaholic) ... but also, fortunate enough to have the common sense to retire at 52, to enjoy the second half of my life, to the fullest. Now my husband and I live, with 2 dogs and 2 ducks, in a pine forest in Ontario, Canada and travel in an RV. I'm a foodie, with a terrible addiction to trying new foods, and collecting cookbooks and food gadgets/appliances. My Scottish husband is - well, British! (Last week he told me my tamale pie was like shepherd's pie spiced wrong.) Our RV travels often involve food - for example, this year we've done the BBQ trail in Texas, Virginia vineyard tour and the Canadian BBQ Championships in Barrie, ON (in which I was a judge). Oh - and we visit any "Michael and Jane Stern"-visited restaurant we can find on our route. (Roadtrip writers, featured in Gourmet magazine.)
I've been making an unpublished website with all my favourite recipes for a couple years, at the request of my family and friends. I was going to publish it, when it was done - but that will never happen! So now that I have discovered this site, I will add those recipe's here. Also since I wasn't nearly done adding my favourite recipes, I will continue trying to eliminate that huge pile of recipe clippings and whole bookcase of cookbooks that I work from, until I get them all electronically transcribed. Did I tell you that I'm retired? And that I'm enjoying the second half of my life to the fullest? This recipe project could take a very long time!
My current passion is BBQ - like Texas brisket, etc. and this year, I bought a Traegar wood pellet smoker, and all different kinds of wood. No complaints from all eating here this summer!
However, I enjoy others' recipes (and the reviews) on this site, so I will try to reciprocate with adding my favourites.

Favorite Foods:

My favourite food is artichokes and my favourite cooking style is Italian, French, BBQ - Texas and Missouri, and anything that's highly spiced and hot (like Indian, Thai, Mexican, etc.)
I think that my friends and family consider me famous for my ribcage baby back ribs, beef pot roast, gratin parmentiere, fillet DuBarry, Thanksgiving turkey dinner, French onion soup, bean and sausage soup, clam chowder, smoked meats, sun-dried tomato spread with cayenne toasts, BBQ beans and soft pretzels with jalapeno cheese dip. Oh, also my pavlovas, creme brulee, pistachio ice cream, and pecan pie. I say this based on how many times I have had to give out these recipes.
And funnily enough my favourite restaurant is an Italian one in Scotland!
