It's 2008, and I'm (gaspgaspgasp) 16! Oh no, I'm not ready to embrace my supposedly sweet sixteenth. Yet.
I really love baking, but now with major inflations baking doesn't seem such like such a good idea any more. Which, in essence, is probably one of the most irksome things ever. But that will hardly stop me from baking (cause I have a supportive mum!).
This year's the supposed "crucial" year for studying, which makes things more stressful. Nonetheless, I usually find myself deviating from my studies and ending up here, in 'zaar.
For me, reading recipes is like entering a brand new world. From a few seemingly insignificant ingredients, you slowly whip up a fantastic dish that goes straight into your stomach, for a meal of absolute delight.
Attempting to cook in the same way as the recipe author has written has always been a dream of mine. Alas, I can't fulfil the dream (usually) as I'm often tied down by school work, or even procrastination.
Generally, I bake more than I cook, but recently I've been crossing the boundaries of the oven and learning how to chop my onions and smash my garlic properly (nice, small bits when the recipe says "finely chopped" instead of odd-ball shapes).
I'm really fond of Jaime Oliver. Okay, apart from the fact that he overloads his food with olive oil, I feel that he's a very good influence - for example, he inspired me to bring my own lunchbox after I watched Jaime's School Dinners.
Now, when I'm not so worn out from school, I do create my own lunches to bring to school - whether its just a simple sandwich, or something more elaborate like chicken noodles, it still brings some warmth to my heart. Plus I'm also assured that I'm not wasting money on school food, and I know what's going into me.
Hopefully, I'll get a zaar premium membership one day. I'm a complete neat freak and the only way I can save recipes (currently) is through "My Favourites" folder, which I must admit is rather.. sad. But hey, it's better than nothing, no?
As an extra curricular activity, I bowl. Bowling has always been a very big part of my life, and I must say that the very action that I regret doing is quitting when I was at my peak. Foolish decision, I swear, for now it's harder for me to get back into the so called "bowling realm" properly.
Personally, I enjoy baking muffins and cookies. I seldom venture into the world of cakes and brownies, but I have done so rather successfully and wouldn't mind trying again; the only thing I really abstain from is icing. I'm not so fond of them.
I'm not famous for anything, really. I'm just famous for being one of the "bakers" in my class - though I prefer the name patisserie. It sounds way nicer than being a "cook", or "kitchen person"!
I'm a fruits (pears, peaches, plums, apples - you name it, I love it!) and vegetable person; chocolate and homemade breads are my complete
vice. But that doesn't prevent me from loving them! ![]()
Have I mentioned my intense love for my grandmother's meat dumplings (ba zhang) and french macarons? They burned a huge hole in my pocket when I went to France on a school trip (3 Euros for one macaron :/)
PS: Do drop a tag on my blog, or leave a review to let me know how my recipe tastes like. thanks![]()
