I live in California, have been here almost my entire life!
I love to cook, bake~just be in the kitchen. My s/o is Asain, so we sometimes have very interestng meals together~but it's fun! There are so many recipes I wouldn't have gotten a chance to taste if he didn't cook! I can't believe all the Japanese dishes I would have just said no about, because of the name! I learned to try things before I said yes or no!
My mom's yellow recipe box was my favorite "cookbook", but when we moved three years ago it got lost. I lost so many recipes that I have no way to replace! I think I am ready to start my own now! I think I'm ready! I would still like to find a few of her recipes~who knows, maybe I will!
My passions are cooking and walking-can't do much more than walk for exercise, so it has to be my passion, so I get out there and do it!!
My biggest pet peeve is people who don't write down their recipes~drives me nuts!! I am just so glad that I had given my sister and sister in law a few recipes they wanted! I don't know how I would have survived without those recipes-most were for Christmas baking and very important to my family! Another pet peeve is people who say "oh, it's an old family tradition, we don't give out the recipe". I always feel so complimented when someone asks for a recipe of mine~I always give it!! I find it really odd not to pass on recipes people have complimented you on-I don't get it!! Do any of you find that with friends also?
I think my favorite dish to cook is a dessert-love to make breads, cookies, any kind of dessert are my favorites to make, I have been making them for about 32 years now~my mom taught me early, and I am so glad!
The dish I am known for has to be my home made chicken pot pie. I don't add veggies or anything. It's just chicken, thickened gravy, served with a crust over mashed potatoes. I make veggies on the side for a complete meal. That is one of the dishes my mom taught me early-and I am glad that she did! My brothers and sisters will sometimes request that for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner and I am always happy to make it~so much easier to clean up. I make it at home and take it where-ever it is being hosted that year, not many pots and pans to clean up from adding a pie crust and cooking a few veggies! It really makes it easier for every one to visit with each other!
I am also known for making a round steak with cream of celery soup-so easy, what's funny is thatI got the recipe from my sister in law, I just make it way more often than she does~but she works full time!! Served with mashed potatoes, gravy made from the soup, veggies and cranberry sauce-I know, I don't understand it either, but my significant other doesn't like mashed potatoes without cranberry sauce! I always get the round steak tenderized 2X when I buy it-never have to worry about tough round steak!
My favorite restaurant is Claim Jumper-love that place!! I just can't visit more than 3 times a year max-it's pricey, but OH, SOOO worth it!! I could get in real trouble-they are building one in the next town-yikes!! I think I am going to have to "forget" about that when deciding where to eat, when we go out!!
