about me

I'm a 27-year-old Software Quality Engineer who just moved to Overland Park, Kansas, for a job. I just got married April 19, 2008, here in Kansas.

I have only recently (the past 2-3 years) gotten into cooking - before that, I could burn ANYTHING. I burned tea once. Anyway...I've gotten fairly good at it (at least I think so), and I really enjoy looking for new recipes. Italian food is what I'm best at making, I suppose...though I think it's just because I've tried more stuff in that area. I like most things, except seafood and barbecue.

Favorite Foods:

I absolutely love pizza, but I'm typically content to just buy that. I love making spaghetti - I think my spaghetti sauce rocks. I have a recipe called "Death Chicken" that my brother begs me to make (it's from a book - I will post it later, I'm sure). I am really good at making desserts, though I'm not big on sugary stuff, so it's just for other people. I HATE cooking noodles, which is weird because I love Italian food, so I do it all the time. I'm just not a good noodle judge. I love making things from scratch though - such a sense of accomplishment! My favorite restaurants are mostly local/regional places. Slim Chicken's is a great one - they have the best chicken strips EVER. Taco Villa in Russellville, Arkansas, is still the BEST Mexican place ever. It's worth going there. Hunan Manor in Fayetteville, Arkansas, has great Chinese food. If I ever learn how to make their crystal chicken (brown garlic sauce), I can die happy. I also love Olive Garden (I can make their salad dressing - num num). Dixie Cafe is great, too. I have lots of favorites. I love going to new places, though there aren't that many around here.

I've recently become obsessed with trying foods from different cultures. I went to an Ethiopian restaurant (in a far away town, of course, because Arkansas doesn't have that sort of thing) in June, and it was amazing! I've made some Ethiopian food since then, and I love it. I also love Indian food. I'd love to travel the world and try different foods!
