about me

I grew up in a small town in Ohio - moved to CA and have been here for 20 years.

With three kids I have done my share of cooking and then have gone through spurts of eating out all of the time. Since I am divorced and share the kids with their Father - it sure is great to hear when they get home - ahhhh home cooking!!! Can you believe that American kids get tired of Mickey D's? Now we only eat out on Thursdays - well even THEN we decide to cook at home sometimes!

My thing has always been - I can cook up a storm - but I can't bake - I didn't like following a recipe to the T! Now - that is all I do! From cookies, to cheescake - oh to the Waffle House waffle recipe I found here that I make on Saturday mornings and then enough for a week or 2....all it needs is whipped cream - no syrup!

The recipes here look fantastic! My Husband is from Groningen area in The Netherlands (we have dubbed it Dutchland) so I enjoy adding and trying those recipes as well. If you have ANY recipes from that region - send them my way! I have invited him to go through the Dutch cookbook that I have created to let me know what he likes....luckily growing up in Ohio I already loved sauerkraut!

Favorite Foods:

Anything Italian.....seafood, pastas, peanut butter is a food group of its own. Actually it depends on my mood - or the season.

I really want to get into canning! I remember that from my childhood. My mother made the BEST plum jelly....nothing like it on buttered toast!

I have to admit - I will very rarely use a mix. I cook as organically as I can within reason with cost and availability.

My favorite chocolate is Hershey's! Mr. Dutchy will try to convince me every now and again of the wonderful and pure taste of Belgium chocolate....I will try it, but nothing is as good as Hershey's to me! Living near San Fran you would think I would have gotten attached to Ghiradelli's - but hasn't happened yet.
