about me

I am the mother of one grown-up son and two pre-teen girls, all great cooks in their own right. I learned to cook as a young child as tutor to my mother and grandmother. They both worked so weekday meals were simple, consisting mainly of soups and cassoluets, the ultimate comfort food. My mother was a whiz with a pressure cooker. Weekends, Holidays and Family Reunion are truly luxurious. My Aunt Jonna is from Denmark and her delicacies were astounding to say the least. Her cookies are worth walking around the earth for and grateful she found her way to my family's corner of the world.

Jonna ushered me around Europe when I was a teenager with my Grandmother Elizabeth, bohemian Aunt Jean, Uncle Maurce, (rhymes with farce) and his and Jonna's children Lisa and Marc. She would send me out alone in whatever country we were in. Teach me a few phrases in whatever language was spoken there, and send me out on errands. I was allowed wine with dinners whick ranged from family style chichen houses in Germany to five-star dining with Flamenco Dancing shows in Barcelona. I did a lot of growing up that summer.

I also adore knitting, crocheting, walking my darling Lhasa Apso Duffy, my children, my sister and nephew, both my brothers and all their kids. Every single one a cook!

My partner and I enjoy the vibe of our glorious city. Dancing, food, the weird and wonderful nature of San Francisco. Z-mail me for some great spots to check out if you are visiting.

My pet peeves include bulemics, pit bulls, and terrorism.

One of my happiest days would be the day both my younger children decided they loved salmon, shrimp, and crab. It totally changed the way we eat around here!

Favorite Foods:

I don't have one favorite restaraunt but here are three that I love: Scomas (a floating restaraunt) at Fisherman's wharf, Fridays Station at Harrah's in Lake Tahoe (my husband was a waiter there for a number of years), Arthur Bryant's Barbeque in Kansas City, MO., and In-and-Out Burgers located almost everywhere in California.
I am famous for my girl-scout chili, hearty and elegant soups, cookies, panko meatballs, fried chicken, and, well it depends on who you talk to.
I use my mom's old Betty Crocker Cookbook, circa 1950's, often. I am very attracted to some of the comfort foods of my youth like casseroles made from canned soup and cold salads made with Jello. However humble this food, I am equally attracted to finer culinary fare as well.
