Beautiful BC

about me

I live in a very pretty valley in a medium sized town in the middle of BC. We have a fairly diverse cultural base so the markets carry an interesting variety of spices etc. Not like a larger center however.

For those that are interested, this youtube clip is 9 minutes long and it's of my son Joel who just took up dance 2 1/2 months before this performance in Feb 2008. I had to share it.

Now back to food etc.

I'm an orthodontic assistant and love animals, miniatures and scrapbooking. With ZWT III, I discovered a great enjoyment of taking foodographs. We love ocean kayaking and discovering great little restaurents and pubs. We also love travelling to sunny warm places with my brother and favourite SIL, when the weather here hits -40°C

Favorite Foods:

We love spicier foods filled with flavour. Love Greek and cajun. After a trip to Mexico discovered cumin and fresh cilantro.

Being a bit of a creative type, I like to make a project of a meal. Cooking & presentation is an art form of sorts.

I prefer recipes that don't assume anything and are well organized and complete. Also really like it when recipes have suggestions as to what to serve with the meal.

I can't bake.

I follow the Zaar recipe ratings formula to but to explain it a little further here's the way my mind works:

If I give a 5 Star rating, it means the recipe covered all the areas - ease of preparation, presentation and flavour. Doesn't have to be a fancy recipe but does have to make you find yourself craving it from time to time.

4 **** Definitely love this and will make it a regular part of our menu planning. Sometimes, I've found myself telling other people about a particular recipe I've given a four star rating - this tells me I have to go back and up it's rating to a five. I'd love a 4 1/2 star spot!

3 *** This means our family liked the meal and would have it again but probably we'd tweak it a bit to our own taste preferences. Also means the reviews at the table were wildly different from "this is really good!" To "yah,it's okay." That tells me it's simply personal preferences involved.

I don't tend to give ratings on anything I had a problem with. If that ever happens, I'll contact the chef directly to discuss the possible problems. I tend to choose recipes I know we like the ingrediants for.

Of course, if a recipe ever blew up my kitchen, I'll probably give it a one star!
