about me

I have lived in the US for 37 years, but still consider myself an Australian, although I was actually born in Holland. Since I come from such a diversified background, my cooking is rather strange at times. I have also lived in Germany, so many times it is a combiniation of Dutch, Aussie / English, German and American. I'm not really much of a cook, but enjoy it, nevertheless. I just wish I knew more and could do more - without a recipe! I'm retired now, so one of my goals is to really learn to cook. The other two are to design my own clothes (I already sew), and the other is to learn to groom my dogs. I intend to enjoy my retirement, doing what I never had time to do before. I've also become a Pampered Chef consultant and Avon Representative - and completely enjoying it. I've been a member of Recipezaar for about 12 months now (and loving it!), and have noticed a change in my cooking. I'm more adventurous, willing to try new and more varied tastes, and combinations, and just about all of what I prepare is edible. Lately, due to a major life change, I've been letting my cooking go, but once I get settled in my new life, I hope to take it up again. Oddly, I miss it, more than I ever thought I would!!!!!

Favorite Foods:

My favorite dish to cook? That's a good one! I found a vegetable casserole one time that I love. It's easy and wonderful for family get togethers. My kids love it. However, due to it's size, I only do it for family get togethers. What dish am I famous for? Burnt!!!!! I don't really have a favorite restaurant. Outback Steakhouse would be one, although there is nothing Aussie about the food - only the ambiance has an Aussie flavor. I also like Chinese and Japanese food. Not much of a fan of Italian, I'm afraid, since pasta is not my favorite. (If my son, who is something of a chef, had a restaurant of his own, that would have to be my favorite. For Christmas, I got him a premium membership to Recipezaar - under a very original name, aussiekarinsson!) However, when it comes to just everday food, I don't think I'm too picky. And lately, since I've been cooking so much from this site, I'm ejoying a wider variety of tastes. So, my favorite will probably change in a few more months. At which time, I will update "my page" again!
