about me

Law student at the University of Nebraska.

Began Cooking: At the age of 23, after finally moving out of the house and having to fend for myself.

About me: I like cooking and baking, because this is my huge stress reliever and it keeps me from eating at McDonalds and Wendy's every day. Still, I am a better "eater" than "cooker."

Favorite Cookbook: Brunswick Bicentennial Anniversary Cookbook, handed down from my grandma to my mother, and now to me. Farm wives have the best recipes.

Favorite Foods:

I like pasta, free-range chicken, and anything that has loads of butter, cream, and oil in it (southern and midwestern foods). I occasionally like sweets, but rarely like cookies, or really rich desserts.

Eats: My favorite international foods are peking duck, pad thai, roti canai (paratha w/dhal), pho, black-bean steamed crab, chicken-guacamole flautas, tacquitos, and gorditas, and anything you can get at dim sum, especially mango pudding and dofu fa (tofu pudding).

Drinks: Watermelon/mango/apple fresh juices (esp. in Hong Kong), soybean drink (not that nasty milk substitute they call "soybean" here), teh tarik, batidos (hispanic milkshakes), and mango lassi.

Things I abhor: Iced bakewell tarts, ugh!

I've spent a lot of time eating in Hong Kong, Malaysia, China, Costa Rica, and England, so I really love international foods of all kinds. I also lived in El Paso for a couple months and developed a wild taste for authentic mexican food, which is amazing and cheap down there.

My favorite recipe off of 'zaar is probably the White Almond Sour Cream Wedding Cake, White Almond Sour Cream Wedding Cake.

There are a handful of good restaurants in Lincoln. Some locally owned favorites are: Lazlo's, Fireworks, La Paz, El Pobrero, Little Saigon (now partially-defunct), Papillion Grill, George's Gyros, Doozy's, Valentino's, Buster's BBQ, Shari Punjab, Yang's Cafe, and probably a handful of others I'm forgetting to name off.
