I am a 56 year old mother of 3. I have 1 son living with his wife in Gig Harbor Seattle, and 2 daughters, with their 3 daughters(between them!) living just around the corner from me here in Spain. My husband is Scottish, my dad was Spanish, and my mother was Irish!! So I have an amazing wealth of International food knowledge to call upon! I love to cook, and so do my eldest 2 grandaughters, they keep their aprons in my kitchen drawer! My son in USA also loves to cook, and often says that he learnt from his Irish Granny, who was a great 'plain' cook, and made fantastic bread. I picked up lots from MY Irish granny, and of course my Spanish one! When I married a Scot, my mother in law showed me things the scottish way. I hope to share any tips etc that I have learnt along the way!
My 'signature' dish for friends is plain old fashioned Beef Stew in Guinness. A one pot dish served good and thick with crusty baked cheesey bread. I am not the best at puddings, and tend to always go for a homemade apple pie, with shortcrust pastry. I sometimes vary the fillings by adding mashed banana, or chopped pears to the apple and clove filling, and drizzling with syrup! Yum! I also love cooking Italian dishes, making flavoured breads, and preparing buffet foods. I am always looking for impressive 'finger food' recipes for parties.
