about me

I'm recovering from major ankle surgery (can you say elevated leg for 3 months?) so I decided to putter around on my about me page. Please excuse my mugshot of a picture but a full-body shot of me is NOT going on the net! I'm a 38 year old California native who's entire family has deserted me and moved to Oregon. Hmph! How do I like them apples, you say? Not very much! I miss them more and more everyday. I would love to be closer to them but it's just too dang cold for me. The ol' arthritis will have nothing doing with my even THINKING of moving there.

I love music and movies and am known for my love of sad (but good) movies. My all time favorite is Wings of the Dove with Helena Bonham Carter but my 2nd favorite is the so stupid but funny Dodgeball. How's that for a strange combination?

My tastes are all over the map not just when it comes to movies. I like all different kinds of food, yet I could never pick out my own crab or lobster to eat. Once I see them in the tank, they are no longer food to me because I feel so bad. This is unfortunate because I LOVE crab & lobster, too! So if I'm in a restaurant that has live lobster, I DON'T look at the tanks because I know one of them will be my dinner! lol That is the only seafood I care for (and shrimp) and my family all grew up as huge beef eaters and, strangely enough, we all still are. YUM! I've just discovered these things that are really yummy and I have them with every meal. They are called vegetables! I never knew veggies could be so tasty, as we grew up on plain canned veggies. My mom cooked great Mexican food but veggies she left to the next generation. lol

I have lupus, fibromyalgia and I've been cutting back on carbs quite a bit lately, due to being diagnosed with diabetes. At first I was miserable, but it's gotten much easier as I've gone along. Being as I'm now in a wheelchair temporarily from my ankle surgery, I've only lost 10 pounds so far, which is a little frustrating but once I'm able to start exercising, it should start to come off faster.

Favorite Foods:

Hmmm...I grew up on my mom's rice and beans and tacos and those are still my all-time favorite foods. Try eating those in moderation! I'm huge on comfort foods and there's nothing like sitting down to a homemade bowl of soup with a warm honey-wheat roll. Very simple but oh-so-yummy for the tummy! I'm learning to adapt a lot of the great Zaar recipes to lower carb and lower fat versions. I also love Lebanese food and SO miss my ex MIL's cooking, who was from Lebanon. The only food I can think of that I really dislike is brussel sprouts and menudo. Ick!
