Hi, my name is Julie. This is me and my twin sister Lauren, Need Help, Can't Cook. I'm the one on your left, I think!
I love to cook. If I'm not at work, I'm either washing dishes, cooking, playing with this site, playing the piano, or washing dishes... Cooking does have it's downside! My sister doesn't like to cook, but she's a great tester and we have lots of fun.
I've been married 23 years and am still head over heels. We met our last semester in college, and it's a good thing we didn't meet earlier, because I didn't do a lick of homework after falling in love. I did manage to graduate and become a CPA. Hubby and I own an accounting firm and enjoy working together. Our kids are grown and out of the house, but life feels more like a second honeymoon than an empty nest. I almost lost my husband to cancer, making me even more thankful for him.
When it's not tax season, we're off traveling. Our little RV is just right for the two of us and our pup, Nikita. We tow our horses, Trav and Scout along, and enjoy riding all over America.
I learned how to cook from my mom, who is famous for her molasses cookies and her pies. I've had the recipe for berry cobbler memorized since I was a kid. That cobbler recipe is one of my favorite childhood memories. My grandma, who was born back in the 1890s, didn't measure anything. We were taught to "add sugar until you are embarrassed and then add a little more." My embarrassment level must be higher than hers was, because my cobbler is on the tart side!
As far as pet peeves go, I don't like it when the ingredients of a recipe aren't in the same order that the directions call for. Well, okay, I have two ... did I mention something about doing dishes?
Since it's just hubby and I at home now and hubby doesn't like leftovers, I usually cut the serving size of recipes down to two. That way I get to cook something different most every night.
My rating system is a bit different than most. I use the Zaar guidelines, so a three from me means we really did like it, and if you get a four from me, I hope you will be proud. I reserve 5 stars for recipes that are proven keepers for our family. That means I won't give a 5 star rating until I've made the recipe a second time and know that it's a family favorite.
I am honored to be the host of Potluck Tag, come check us out, we'd love to have you join us!

I love meeting new friends on Zaar. I'm actually rather quiet in real life, so I really enjoy you all. Finally, Jesus is my Lord and Savior, I'm so thankful for Him. Here's my favorite bible verse.
Micah 6:8 "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"
Carbs, unfortunately... I love fresh vegetable dishes. My husband only likes frozen vegetables. (That reminds me of a nursery rhyme!) Anyway, I finally figured out after all these years that I should just cook the vegetable that I want as well as making him his peas or corn. That way we're both happy!
My favorite of the recipes I have posted would be my crockpot burrito meat. It's over-the-top delicious and ridiculously easy to make. Hubby's favorite would be Dave's stroganoff and our kids favorite would be Dave's tacos.
My favorite Zaar chefs are Marie, PaulaG and KITTENCAL. You can't go wrong with any of their dishes!
