I recently quit my job to be a full-time housewife; my husband's job is really taking off and we're both much happier this way!
I've always enjoyed cooking (er, and eating!) When we were both working, being the young, lazy things that we are, we mostly ate fast food or frozen processed food. Needless to say, we both could do with a much healthier diet! That's where Recipezaar fits in.
I am a huge Alton Brown/Good Eats fan. I am only a few courses away from a B.S. in Physics, so the science side of Good Eats really appeals to my inner nerd. I really admire Alton's commitment to keeping recipes as fresh and unprocessed as possible (within limits of practicality.) Plus the show is funny as hell. Those yeast puppets kill me every time!
I am slowly but surely amassing all the essential kitchen gadgets I need. I have a fairly small kitchen, so I'm careful to only buy very useful workhorse-type items. My most recent acquisition was a 5qt KitchenAid Artisan mixer. YAY! I've been wanting one for years. Now to get that meat grinder attachment...

Because our family has dropped from dual to single income, I've become obsessed with my grocery budget and avoiding waste. We used to throw perfectly good food out all the time, or allow things to spoil or go rotten because we never had the time to utilize them. NO MORE, I SAY! My favorite thing is to find a good recipe to fit the ingredients that I want to use up. Can anyone say "casseroles"? ![]()
I like buying organic when possible, but referring you to my previous comments on budgeting, I've scaled back to buying just organic dairy and eggs. I don't know about you but I don't need bovine growth hormone, I already am as big as a cow! I'd like to buy organic chicken and beef (grass-fed only please!), but until the prices come down or our area gets a Whole Foods store it's hit or miss.
I never met a dessert I didn't like, but I'm trying to cut back sooooo... I try not to look at dessert recipes too often. ![]()

Favorite dessert: French silk pie
Favorite junk food: Wendy's Spicy Chicken (Combo #6!)
