about me

Hmmm....I hate having to write about myself and I am not particularly skilled at it but here it goes. I'm a Canadian (originally from Ontario) who currently lives in Berkeley, California. Before moving here two years ago, I lived in Montreal which I absolutely adore and miss desperately even when sitting outside on my porch with an iced coffee in February. That being said, I do love my new home. How could anyone not love a place with mountains, beaches, beautiful weather, fresh produce year round and palm trees?
I got married right after college (hence my reason for moving to the US) and realized that despite all the cooking that I did for myself in college, my ability to throw a meal together had not improved much over those four years. With the stress of school, it didn't bother me to constantly be making the same three or four dishes. In fact, I'm not even sure that I bothered to savour anything that entered my mouth while I was there. Once I left, I rediscovered my love for food and wanted to learn how to prepare it properly. This was what first drove me to this site. Since then, I think I have developed an obsession with food. I want to try making everything I see but there are only two people here to eat it so I really have to pace myself.
Despite my lack of cooking experience, I think I've always been a moderately good baker. I would say the only thing stopping me from baking is weight considerations but that doesn't even manage to stop me anymore. I just limit what I eat and give the rest to others. So, I'm almost always whipping up a batch of muffins or cookies.

Favorite Foods:

My list of favourite foods is way too long. I just adore Mexican food, sushi, big salads served with a piece of crusty Italian Bread or Focaccia, a good burger (meat or otherwise) served with swiss cheese and avocado, Korean BBQ, bagels, coffee, and desserts featuring either cinnamon or chocolate (or both) as the main flavour. While I will eat just about anything and like it, I still reserve the honour of "favourite cuisine" for the Italian food I grew up with. I will never say no to pasta in a good marinara sauce, pasta alla carbonara (made the REAL way without cream), cheese filled ravioli, lasagne, potato and onion pizza, cannoli, or a piece of my grandmother's tiramisu. I particularly enjoy the traditional Italian goodies which my grandmother brings out for the holidays such as her Easter Bread, which I've had to make on my own for the last few years since the last time I was home for Easter was about 6 or 7 years ago.
