I'm 50ish and have lived in East Texas for 9 years, having lived most of my life in the Dallas area. My favorite thing to do has always been cooking, especially one pot meals like soups, stews, and chilis that can be served with crackers, homemade crusty bread, or cornbread. Of course I cook other things and love to barbeque, but the one pot meals are the most comforting, especially in the cooler months.
I've been cooking since I was a child. I made my first family meal at about age 10. It was my mother's goulash recipe. My mom was painting my bedroom and I had to run back and forth from the kitchen to the bedroom asking her what the next step was. After 40+ years, I still make the goulash and consider it to be my signature dish. I've added a few spices over the years,"tweaked" the recipe and now call it Texas Goulash (Texas Goulash). Everyone I've served it to has enjoyed it.
