I'm a 50 year old mother of three(17 and 20 year old girls and a 22 year old boy), married 25+ years. I've loved to cook since I was a kid and I collect recipes and unusual ingredients, especially ethnic items, sauces, spices, flours, etc. I shop at the Asian grocery store, better prices, selection and fresher vegetables. I love trying to imitate something I have had in a restaurant. I love to watch the Food Network. Alton Brown and Iron Chef Morimoto are faves.
I LOVE anything ethnic or regional, especially if it involves limes, garlic, onions, peanuts(think Thai), and crunchy, salty food (think onion rings, or tempura) and seafood! My family tell me they like my broiled salmon better than anything they've ever had. I'm also good at making BIG pans of "family-food" like chicken and dumplings, BBQ brisket(native Texan), Chinese sub-gum fried rice, really fancy (5 layer) lasagne, etc. My favorite dish to cook is, I guess, Filete de la Casa (a la Mario and Alberto Restaurant), a ribeye steak (yes, I use ribeye), loaded up with TONS of fresh garlic and lime juice, and a healthy grind of pepper and sea salt, pounded flat and seared on a super hot griddle. Messy but yummy.
