about me

Happily married, with 4 children who keep us on our toes! Been here in Cairo since 1999, where I teach French in an American school. I also manage the department, and am trying to find time to complete my PhD. Not too long to go now!
I am a keen cook , always on the look-out for new recipes. We return at least once a year to Scotland in order to escape the blistering Egyptian summers. We miss the mountains, the forests and the snow! I don't like to be late, and have had to get used to the Egyptian philosophy of " Never do anything today that you can put off till tomorrow"!! I dislike traffic jams and packed shops, but I love being able to buy wonderful fresh veg and fresh Phyllo pastry here in Egypt, in Scotland these essential ingredients were often hard to find.
My family adore Greek food, and I suppose Egyptian food is very similar. I have many cookbooks from Nigella Lawson to Arto der Haroutunian, and am always on the look-out for authentic and traditional recipes. I love Seafood restaurants and adore Indian food.

Favorite Foods:

Since I discovered Recipezaar, I've found it harder to list all my new favourites! You can usually find me dropping in on the Greek Forum, where I'm always asking Evelyn for her specialities, as I just love Greek food. Being a Scot, I love fish, especially salmon, and I have many Scottish dishes that are in my repertoire, that I have never got around to posting... In-Laws call to request my Pastitsio,Konafa and Eve's Pudding and I've been told I make a mean Baba Ghanoug. I really appreciate the Middle Eastern Forum which gives me great ideas for cooking Egyptian-style. We frequently cook healthful Persian eats, and have quite a few of their cookbooks. Check out my Borani which I've posted on Zaar. Easy to make!
Favourite restaurant? Tough question! I like so many here in Egypt, and in Scotland. But they all must have one thing in common, and that is to serve the perfect after-dinner coffee!
