about me

I've just adopted a strict vegetarian diet and am rediscovering the beauty and wonder of fresh, natural foods.

When not wrapped up in food, I am a movie lover (I'll watch just about anything but am drawn to the classics of the 30s-50s, particularly film noir, musicals, and the sharp-witted romantic teams of the era). I like to knit while watching movies, but I'm not very good at it! I also enjoy spending time with my family and my pets (two cats and a sweet little dog who always seems to like my cooking!), reading, playing board or video games and puzzles, and listening to music (another area where I have a wide appreciation but lean toward the classic artists and style of rock and roll).

Professionally, I'm in the process of applying to nursing school after a life-changing decision to leave my career in finance last year and pursue my dream of working in medicine. My husband has been an absolute darling, supporting me in every way as I've taken the science prerequisites at a local community college and adjusted to being a 29 year old student after a decade away.

Favorite Foods:

Just about everything that involves any of the following: asparagus, artichokes, avocados, berries, citrus, corn, cucumbers, garlic, lentils, melon, mushrooms, nuts, olives, onions, pasta, pineapple, pomegranates, potatoes, spinach, sprouts, stone fruits, tomatoes.

Homemade bread is a religious experience. So is fresh brewed iced tea, unsweetened and unflavored and in a really tall glass. I drink iced water like it's going out of style. I eat pickles and olives like candy. I can make a meal out of an avocado (and frequently do). I think heated, salted edamame is the best appetizer around.

I sometimes just stand and admire produce, stricken by the beauty of the colors and textures and shapes.
