about me

i'm updating my info because i just moved to florida, and i'm going back to school for my PhD in anthropology.

i've posted a photo of me in my biking get-up. my husband and i go on monthly critical mass bike rides with a group of local folks to promote alternative forms of transportation. miami's public transportation leaves much to be desired, and traffic lives on every major thoroughfare.

for fun i watch lots and lots of movies, read novels, non-fiction, magazines, newspapers, graphic novels, catalogs, pretty much anything i can get my hands on, especially cookbooks. now i'm swamped in schoolwork, so i mostly read for classes. but i'm glad to be back in school, learning new tricks, talking about ideas with my classmates, and meeting a new & fascinating poeple every day!

my favorite cookbook so far is vegan planet.

i am totally into food: making it, eating it, sharing it. and learning about it.

my pets are rita and nesta, nearly identical brother & sister littermates. they are the most co-dependent kitties i have ever known. very sweet, but a little too clingy sometimes.

my pet peeves are the phrases, "i don't like it" followed by, "i've never had it".

Favorite Foods:

i love cooking chili and soup because they are magical. throw anything in the pot and it turns into something delicious. unfortunately, miami doesn't exactly have chili weather...

some more frequently requested dishes that i often make include bean dip (black or white), veggie shepherd's pie, monster salads, enchiladas, and chili.

my favorite restaurants in st. louis include gokul, a vegetarian indian fast food joint, and boogaloo, the new cuban/creole/carib restaurant where i went for my birthday. oh, and my all-time favorite mexican place - las palmas.

i love visiting new cities and searching for new restaurants. i have been known to read a phone book or two for the menus in the restaurant listings...

miami has been a bit of challenge because the town is not very vegan/vegetarian friendly. moon thai & japanese restaurant has been really great. i eat a couple kinds of fish, and books & books cafe has my favorite salad ever: tuna nicoise with seared tuna, boiled potatoes, green beans, capers, and giant olives!

cuban food is built around pork, so i haven't really been able to experience the many many great-smelling restaurants in the area. too bad.
