about me

Hi! Thank you for visiting my "About Me" page. I live in the San Joaquin Valley of California (halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles). This area is known as the "nation's breadbasket" as 75% of the food for the entire nation is grown here. I am fortunate because this means I always have an ample supply of fresh fruits, nuts, and vegetables when I cook.

I am married to a wonderful guy (since 1979), and we have two terrific kids. Our daughter (born in 1981) has her college degree in microbiology. Our son (born in 1983) has his college degree in computer science.

We share our household with two cats. Serratia (named after a bacteria, courtesy of my microbiologist daughter) has "tons" of personality. Kali, our other cat, is a big zero in the personality department. We also have a VERY OLD dog named Rowdy, who definitely doesn't live up to her name anymore...poor ol' girl. Update: Rowdy crossed over the "rainbow bridge" in December 2006, at the ripe old age of 16. We miss her so much!!

I am an avid gardener. I recently went back to college myself, and got a degree in Plant Science. I love to watch football, and I'm an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts (I don't think there's many of us on the West Coast).

I love to go camping and to horseback ride. My greatest passion is to combine the two and take my horses camping with me. Trail riding in "God's Country" makes everything seem right with the world.

I absolutely can't stand rude, inconsiderate people. My biggest pet peeve is bad drivers...which usually happen to be rude, inconsiderate people. Imagine that!!

Favorite Foods:

I love to bake, especially bread, which I either make by hand or in my bread machine. I frequently use my crockpot as a timesaver when I know I have a busy day ahead of me. I love to use my cast iron camp Dutch oven when I go camping. There is no reason you can't eat as well in the woods as you can at home!! I've recently started making my own beer and I'm having a great time experimenting with the many different kinds available.

My favorite foods are: anything sweet; anything HOT & S-P-I-C-Y (the hotter and spicier, the better); sweet &/or savory breads; Thai food; Mexican food; a great steak; and beer. Oh yeah...did I mention beer?!?
Foods I don't like are: eggplant; lamb; and liver.
My favorite local restaurant is Cool Hand Luke's. They have great steaks and desserts.
