about me

I am a casual young chef looking to expand my experience and creativity when it comes to feeding my husband and myself! As a (yet unpublished) writer of fantasy novels, I spend a large amount of my time online doing research or simply typing. It's great to do non-writing research here at Recipezaar to see what ideas other people have had for recipes as well as try using them to create ideas of my own when I feel creative.

I tend to add things "to taste" and rarely measure ingredients unless I am baking. Most listed amounts for my recipes are suggestions, not unbreakable rules. When it comes to spices, learn what your preference is in terms of heat/spice tolerance and follow it instead of "recommended" amounts. No two people are the same, and you might be disliking a perfectly good recipe based on someone else's taste. Too much flour or other vital ingredients can ruin a recipe, but spice you can always leave out or change if you are prepared.

I have been a type 1 diabetic for most of my life, but this year I have made a serious effort to get back on track with caring for myself after several years of poor control. I am eager to try low-carb and low-fat options that still retain plenty of taste! Sugar is OK in moderation, it is mainly portion control I need to work on.

Favorite Foods:

I love to eat just about anything! I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona; authentic Mexican food is a major staple for me. My family spent two years as vegetarians so veggies don't scare me! My husband and I love mushrooms and eat them just about every week in some capacity. I have adapted to eating shrimp, salmon, tuna and whitefish after moving to Washington.

We love to experiment with different styles and flavors. Italian and Asian cuisine are common hits for dinner, and we often try to experiment with Greek and Thai flavors after some good experiences eating out. As with Mexican food we always strive for as much authenticity in foreign cuisine as possible. The only things we tend to avoid are the more exotic meat options such as duck, lamb, veal, venison or game.
