Hi, everyone! Thanks for looking at my page, my recipes & for checking out this wonderful photo of the two most important persons in my life (OK, one is a beagle but we've raised him since he was six weeks old so he's a part of our little family!). The other is my sexy, younger husband (OK, only by four years) & we've been married for almost seven years. I am still awed that he chose to marry me considering I had little to no domestic skills when we first married! He now enjoys my food & it's a great source of joy/acheivement to plan, cook & serve him meals every night. But ugh, I am NOT a "doing the dishes" woman, so I have learned to "clean as I cook!"
I owe A LOT to this website!!!! I have come such a long way since I first started realizing that raw chicken turns white when you cook it!! Cooking is now a huge passion of mine. I take such joy in creating my own recipes or getting creative with recipes from this website. Striving for satisfaction/perfection with food can be a hard task but I love that feeling of getting a recipe just "right." I am a recent vegetarian but my hubby is not, so I get to cook on both sides of the fence! It's a kind of delicate balancing act but I do think I'm getting better at it as I go.
Boy, where to start with the favorite foods? My hubby calls me his "little monkey" because I am a huge banana fan! I eat so many that I go the to store for "banana runs" just to keep my supply stocked. I used to be a fast food, junk food junkie but a few years ago, I decided I really needed to get serious about my gluttony. So over the last few years I lost weight by learning to cook healthy & running on my treadmill (every person's best friend & worst enemy!) It was, and still is, quite a learning experience to figure out what is & isn't healthy. I was diagnosed with Grave's disease a few years ago (an overactive thyroid) so I have added motivation to stay healthy, since it's something that (I think) doesn't ever completely go away.
It's been a lot of fun to try out a ton of different dishes over the years I've been on Zaar, but at this point I have narrowed down my tastes & generally know what I like. I like fresh spinach, healthy &/or lower carb pancakes & waffles, whole grains, fat free cottage cheese, a low carb vanilla yogurt by Dannon, Skippy natural peanut butter & my lower carb tortillas for wraps/burritos. I also love my spice cabinet since nothing perks up bland food like good flavoring. I do like an occasional chocolate treat, though! Staying healthy means putting a yum-yum in your tum-tum every now & then!
Thank you so much to the many talented, generous chefs at Zaar. The majority of people here are so positive, helpful & love to cook for their families. It has helped me so much, in more ways that I can explain, but it all means so much!
