about me

I am originally from Iowa. I've lived down under since coming over to meet my now hubby. We met online in 1997 and I came here in sept 1998. This is where I call home though. I am SAHM of a precious little girl. The picture here is of her at 6 mos eating sweet potato. I love to cook but sometimes don't put alot of heart into it. Right now I am trying to do that. And to try new things. I love this old cookbook my mum had "Country Fair Cookbook" every recipe in it is a blue ribbon winner. It was published in 1975. I loved it so much I had to find a copy of it for myself to bring back with me from the states a few years ago. I love to watch cooking shows. When I have been back to visit my family I found the food channel was all I needed for entertainment LOL. When I first came to Australia my cooking ablility was all the sudden horrid. It took me awhile to sort myself out and start cooking like the old me again. But then I found that I needed to improve on even that to please my husband. He doesn't like lumpy mashed potatoes, I always thought that's what they were supposed to be and if you didn't want lumpy you had to buy instant! And then he informed me that a lasagna has to have a bechemal sauce, not that he knew how to make one. I'd always just put cottage cheese straight on and wondered why it just dissolved to nothing in the cooking process. Now I could never look at a lasagna without a bechemal sauce on it. So I have my husband to thank for helping me to improve my cooking.

Favorite Foods:

I love the food that Mexican restaurants serve in the states. I love a good taco salad in a shell. MMMMM...fresh baked bread. Both my husband and I love Olive Garden in the States. I really don't have a favorite restaurant in Australia. We usually are pretty disappointed when we go out to eat here. Chairs are uncomfortable (very important for my husband as he has chronic pain) and usually the meal just doesn't cut it for us. But we do like a restaurant in the Italian Forum in Leichardt, Sydney. We've been there twice and were happy both times.
