about me

Refugee from the lake effect snows of Lake Ontario, learning to garden with miniscule applications of water in the desert. Was a university art department member (photography) before moving to New Mexico. I miss my darkroom, but now have a brand new Nikon digital SLR to make up for it. My heart will always belong to the "handmade" image, not one printed from a machine. I'm a great fan of pinhole cameras and 19th century photo techniques.

Favorite Foods:

Anything EXCEPT arugula (tastes like skunk to me) liver,(the oil filter of an animal's body), or uncooked egg white. I even like raw fish, chocolate covered ants, haggis, and sea urchin roe. Urchin roe was first tasted on a month-long trip to Japan. Good thing no one told me what it was, I might have turned finicky and missed out on an incredible treat.

My favorite cookbook varies. I have some wonderful ones I love but do not necessarily usee that often. I love Crescent Dragonwagon's soup and bread book and am eagerly awaiting the publication of Jose Andres' "Made in Spain". Mark Bittman's vegetarian one is also excellent. It was like pulling teeth choosing ones to get rid of before moving, but I girded my loins and gave away about 10% of them.

One of my favorite restaurants no longer exists. It was La Fonda del Sol in the Time-Life Building in NY City. My first taste of salsa in 1967! No other salsa in all these years can take me back to that first taste, so exotic to my young New England palate.
I haven't been to all the restaurants where I live, but so far I have three favorites locally:
The Double Eagle, Don Felix, and El Comedor, all in La Mesilla. My favorite city in which to eat is Montreal. The whole world is represented there. Le Passe Partout is a great one, especially for the incredible artisinal bread! Go for lunch, it's cheaper then.
