"The discovery of a new dish does more for the happiness of mankind than the discovery of a new star" Brillat-Savarin
I've collected recipes since I was a teen. After all these years I'm trying to get all my index cards and clippings, that still sound interesting to me, posted here so that I can find them and eventually make them!
I like relatively easy recipes. If there are too many steps or pots and pans going at once, I'm afraid I'd get overwhelmed and intimidated. Still trying to get the nerve to bake a bread with yeast!
I've posted some of my Mom's recipes. I regret not having paid more attention to my Grandmothers' cooking. They made some dishes that I miss and there were/are no recipes for them.
I have a wonderful DH and 2 wonderful sons. They are thrilled that I found this site since they directly benefit from it! Before finding 'Zaar, I was less of a cook and more of a recipe collector but now I try many more things and we're having more fun in the kitchen (at least I am)!
Thanks for all your ratings, comments and help in the forums AND for posting so many great recipes. You've enhanced my cooking skills and expanded my horizons! I've learned so much.
My youngest son, just got his own Zaar account and he wants to rate my recipes (and yours) and he is suddenly interested in cooking! He is up to toasting and he used the microwave to heat a frozen bagel. We're onto something. His name here is picky-picky http://www.recipezaar.com/member/466291 and he is! I also have a dear friend on the site named Spamster http://www.recipezaar.com/member/221054 who is great cook and all around creative gal.
For fun, I also like to read fiction, travel, see movies and shows, shop (and I love to browse thrift shops and rummage and garage sales for cookbooks, etc.). I should exercise but don't. That may change soon...
A little background...was a lawyer who never wanted to be one but didn't know what else to do...became a legal recruiter and really enjoyed that. In fact, I cold-called my DH! It's a long story! I am now a "stay at home and try to cook" Mom.
I like almost everything! Too many things to name. I will say that I am a carnivore! I like to make dinner. Desserts/baking are not my favorite things to make. I do love chocolate anything, cheesecakes, creme brulee...I guess I do have a sweet tooth! I love Tate's chocolate chip cookies and don't mind baking them.
There are only a few things that come to mind that I don't care for: hot tea (maybe because my Mom made me drink it when I was sick?), chili but DH loves it, gumbo, fennel, five spice powder, black licorice, cheese whiz, tart candies like Smarties and Sweet Tarts.
