about me

I love to cook and am always looking for new and updated recipes. I am a Native of New Orleans, but I have lived in Florida ( the Panhandle and East Coast) many years. I love to cook with the fresh seafood available here using recipes from the family living in New Orleans and other southern LA towns, as well as the southern cooking recipes from my Florida Grandma & Aunts (there were a bunch of them). We love seafood but we also love grilling out a great steak or some chops or ribs, etc. We enjoy all kinds of veggies and salads. I am a good cook, but not much of a baker, other than a fairly decent pound cake. One day I hope to have the time to catalog a lot of these old family recipes here instead of the box in the kitchen cabinet. My husband and I (his 2 sons are 21 & 23 & out of the house), our 2 dogs & 1 cat live in a 70 year old brick bungolow and enjoy our yard, friends, growing herbs, going junking and just being a couch potato. We both enjoy cooking sometimes together and sometimes solo. We have come up with some of our favorite recipes when we collaborate. I work in the logistics field, and most days are hectic and full throttle, sometimes my Crockpot is my best friend.
Update: We are in the process of moving back to the panhandle area of Florida. I am looking forward to all of the great Gulf Seafood that will be available. I am no longer working, so I am looking forward to really having the time to cook.
Update: We are finally settled in the Panhandle of Florida. It is great to have all the fresh seafood & produce available locally. I have been doing quite a bit of cooking and visiting with family & eating their cooking. My 86 year old Aunt has my Mom & Me for lunch quite often. Boy she is a heck of a cook. Her cornbread is to die for. She still cans her own veggies, and is going to teach me this summer, I can hardly wait. My fig bush is loaded, along with the pear tree & blueberry bushes. I have eaten some of the best homegrown produce I have had in years this spring. Yum. Nothing better than a big ripe tomato sandwich.

Favorite Foods:

Seafood, Good Steaks, anything chocolate. I am famous for my shrimp creole and country fried steak smothered with brown onion gravy. I don't really have a favorite resturant, but do try to frequent neighborhood favorites over the big chains.
We have a favorite Mexican resturant nearby that has a great patio & outdoor bar. Our neighbors across the street are the owners. We also have a great Pizza place around the corner, which is owned by two Polish guys from New York, but they make a great pie.
Update: We are looking forward to trying out all the local places, I have already seen a bunch of places that I look forward to trying.
Update: We have found some really great places over here. A great place for Fried Mullet & Cheese Grits (don't turn up your nose until you have tried it); a great Bar-B-Que Place that has great chopped pork & cole slaw. A couple of Pizza Places & a really good sandwich shop that does killer panini sandwiches with all sorts of good things in them. There is always McGuires Pub in Pensacola, which has won several Florida Golden Spoon Awards. It is an Irish Pub and mircrobrewery, they have a great decor ( a cazillion dollar bills stapled to the walls & ceiling that have been signed by Irish patrons), the food there is really good & the menu offers a variety of items. They have great steaks and seafood, and they make an awsome French Onion Soup. I would recommend to anyone visiting Pensacola for an evening out with a fun atmosphere along with a great meal.
