I am French Canadian (Québécoise!) french teacher in an elementary school and graduate student in french literature, hence the mistakes you might find in stuff I post on Zaar... I live with my boyfriend and I am the luckiest cook in the world, since I live in the most multiethnic area of a very multiethnic city, Montreal, just a few blocks away from the Marché Jean-Talon, the largest open-air farmer's market in North America, lined with lovely exotic Italian, Morrocan, Chinese, French, etc. food stores! Montreal is also packed with great - and not too expensive - restaurants. Oh, how I looooove this city...
I enjoy baking and bread-making - kneading is such a wonderful activity, a real therapy! I would say I cook mostly "cuisine du marché", that is I like to cook with fresh, healthy, seasonal ingredients. I am a total " do it yourself" freak : besides making my own bread and baked goods, I make my broths, jams, doughs, spice mixes, etc. I guess it might change when I have children!
The only food I really don't care for is chips (not a bad thing!). I "tend to by vegetarian", as I eat very little meat (mostly for environmental concerns, but also because cooking with legumes is so much more convenient), but seafood and fish are among my favorite foods. I also try to limit my use of other animal products (milk, eggs... but I could never give up yogourt or cheese), so I cook a lot of vegan stuff, which is easy since I enjoy tofu and legumes and fruits and veggies and nuts... and... oh well. Anything but chips!
