I am retired, live in Asheville, NC (In these parts it's known as God's Country and if you have ever been here you know why).
Addition 11/24/05 Just noticed the "pet peeve" question. I try not to have any; I find persons with "pet peeves" rather peevish (but I bet I secretly DO have a couple...)
Hot stuff (36 years living in ABQ, NM---miss the green chile, the smell of roasting chile in the fall.) Grew up on the east coast so am also addicted to sea food---hard to come by in NM. And Horseradish. Anyone who grew up on the east coast must remember those oyster crackers covered with horseradish that were de rigueur at oyster bars. I just seem to be congenitally intended to want hot foods, the hotter the
better.
My favorite food is whatever I feel like cooking at the time. I don't have a favorite restaurant: prefer my own cooking. (Have you ever been in one of those kitchens? I have never been in the food business myself but I've had lots of friends who were. I've heard horror stories you wouldn't believe! Well, sure you would. You've heard them, too.)
Truly, I am not "famous" for any dish, nor for anything else, which is probably just as well.
I do have an odd trait, though. (Yeah, just ONE, you betcha!) But I DO find it odd that in the coldest weather I seem to crave cold foods, such as salads & the like. And then on scorchingly hot days I want to make hot soups. I have noticed this over the years & it seems to be becoming more & more pronounced. I thought perhaps a reader might have heard of this before...I really would like to know that I'm not just nuts!
Maybe I'm just "contrary"...I've been accused of being "contrary" all my life.
Oh, just reread the "Suggestions" thing about what we should mention, and saw "Passions."
My passion is politics! Not the nasty business "politics" has come to mean, but what it should mean...How politics can work to make this blessed planet a kinder place to live with compassion and caring, which is the only thing that makes any sense whatsoever, don't you know?
Love this site; hope it lives forever.
