about me

I'm an American living in Prague, Czech Republic for 12 years now. I'm married to a Czech, and we have two kids, a boy aged 6 and a girl aged 2. I'm a stay at home mom, but I've just started working with a new English language preschool that will be opening in fall 2003 as the administrator. I'm also one of the admins for an expat website in Prague (see my homepage).

For fun - hmmm...well, I read a lot, watch movies, spend too much time on the computer....!! We love to travel - we'll be spending our summer holidays in Sardinia again this year in June. Other favorite places are Amsterdam, my mom's (Washington, DC), and the lake district of Austria around Salzburg. My dream holiday is to the Maldive islands, off the coast of Sri Lanka.

Favorite Foods:

I enjoy cooking - I can't say that I LOVE it, because all the cooking in the house falls on me and it can get a bit burdensome sometimes, but I do like trying new recipes. Recipezaar has been a lifesaveer some nights! We like Thai and Mexican food, sushi - well, pretty much anything really, and it's fortunate we can get most of the ingredients we need here now (wasn't so easy in the past).

I have a lot of cookbooks, but the ones I turn to the most in a pinch are Bittman's How to Cook Everything and my Fanny Farmer Cookbook. I print out recipes from Zaar and Allrecipes and keep them in a binder in the kitchen, too.

My family raves about the desserts I make! My father in law keeps telling me I should open a cafe...nah I'l just make him another batch of brownies - that'll keep him quiet for a while! :D

The last time we ate out, we went to a Belgian restaurant - good beer! Heavy cooking, but it was a snowy evening, so it was a perfect fit. Lovely chocolate desserts!
