I'm married with 2 children (boy and a girl), currently 3 grandchildren (all girls), 3 poodles, and at last count 8-yard cats. Too many of my city friends believe I live a pretty boring life in the country. But country life is perfect for my husband and me. For fun we travel around the state visiting country fairs and craft shows. I own more gardening and craft books than cook books, that's what drew me to recipezaar. My passions are cooking, gardening, scrapbooking, sewing and spending time with my family. My greatest passion right now is my grandchildren. Those girls are something else, (Proud Grandma). One of my many other passions is what I call my "Inspirational Walk" in my garden. When finished, it will be a one mile path taking the walker through several gardens that have plants mentioned in the Bible. I've started Genesis, the first garden room, it is called "The Garden of Weed'en". I named it that after a gift from a dear friend at work. I already have an apple tree (crab apple) and 2 fig trees in that area. There are several other plants that are not mentioned in the Bible located there like Angel Trumpets. My "Pet Peeves"?, violence, hate, closed-minded people, tall grass, and overflowing garbage cans.
My favorite dishes to cook are anything smoked on the smoker, vegetable dishes, and sweets. I guess you can tell I'm a carb lover. I love home canning and sharing the fruits of my labor with my family, and friends. Although I have to admit since I broke my leg in 2000 I haven't canned or gardened as much as I use too.
The most requested dishes that I cook are Smoked Turkey (injected with my secret ingredients and my secret blend of wood chips used in the smoker), chicken and dumplings (my son's absolute favorite), Red Velvet Cake (my daughter want's this now instead of chocolate), and Chicken and black bean enchiladas (DH favorite).
My favorite restaurants in Columbus GA are:
Red Lobster for their lobster, crab legs, broiled shrimp, and butter sauce are my favorites there.
ShoGun Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar all of their meals are cooked by your own chef in front of you Tappan Yaki Style. Lobster is my favorite there also, the stir fry veggies are wonderful.
Chef Lee's Peking Restaurant for there shrimps in lobster sauce.
Country's Barbecue for great barbecue and veggies too!
El Carrizo Mexican Restaurant their salsa is the best to me (we have tried many). DH and I have tried everything there; all the food is very good. I don't like my Chimi Changa's (?sp) fried and this restaurant is the only one that will prepare it for me that way. Well El Carrizo has closed their doors...we are looking for another mexican restaurant.
