I'm from Oklahoma (Sooner born/Sooner bred); I've lived in the Southeastern-most corner of Tennessee, the FM 1960 area of Houston, in San Diego for eight years, and I now live in Burbank. I have a DBF and a DBC (dear blind cat) named Floyd. I wish I had never found this site, because I can't develop a standard repertoire of meals since I'm always browsing for and finding new recipes. It's a good problem.
Our hobby is to go explore new regions, their restaurants and their taverns. We take forever when we're dining out, and really enjoy the entire experience. My favorite is Northern Italian and his favorite is Japanese. My favorite restaurant is La Scala in Point Loma, CA (a neighborhood in San Diego). Definitely not for the service, but for the charm, the comfort, the zabaglione, and the opera singers they have perform on the weekends. AND I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT OPERA. I've been there on an evening or two when they have five singers, and three or four different musicians, cranking out fantastic music. They're there to perform with their friends, not for the audience. It's a bit rat-pack-esque. I'd recommend the house saltimbocca, which is drenched in bechamel. Hopefully you'll get to see the couple who runs the place bicker about how things should be done. He looks like an Italian Wilford Brimley; she looks like a prettier Tony Soprano's mom
