about me

I have been cooking and baking since I was old enough to hold a spoon and help my Nee Nee "stir" the pot. Trying new recipes is my favorite past time. I love to cook for others and tend to share more than I eat, which is VERY good for my waistline.

I love to collect cookbooks and my husband and kids say that if I buy or receive one more, they are going to have to move out to make room. (I'm thinking I would have more room for cookbooks if husband was gone!) Since my original "about me" post, I've managed to turn one whole room in my house into a cookbook library of sorts and get all the books out boxes and onto shelves. I'm hoping my floor doesn't fall in!

I've made a bunch of new friends on Zaar and I spend a good bit of my days here (when I probably should be doing more work, because that is what they pay me for) but I've discovered that my "visiting" with my Zaar friends keeps me sane!

Favorite Foods:

I love to bake. I think my favorite foods are my daddy's biscuits and his fried okra, my Nee's chocolate cake with 7 minute icing and chicken and dressing made by either of them. My Nee passed away in April, 2007.
She used to cook Sunday lunch for all of family from the time I was little until she fell and became disabled. Despite the disability, she would wheel herself into the kitchen to order us around and make sure we were doing it "her" way.

I'm one of those people who CANNOT leave a recipe alone and almost always modify it to my taste. In my little world, recipes are just good guidelines and can always be improved! That trait drives my mother crazy!

MY RATING SYSTEM:
I'm not going to rate anything that I think is below 3 stars. I believe that all tastes are subjective and just because I don't like something or the way it tasted, I'm not going to give it a mediocore or bad review.

Everything I rate will have either 4 or 5 stars. 5 is the best of the best; 4 are things that I will make again and 3 are things that I made but need work or the recipes needs something, in my opinion.

I dislike reviews wherein the person states "I haven't made this yet, but....." or "I changed this this and this BUT...". I don't think those are fair reviews for anyone. There are times when I will make the original dish and review it but if I feel something can be improved upon or changed for my family's tastes, I wait and do that the next time I make it and will note that in my review.
