DH and I are semi-retired and loving it! The kids are grown and on their own, so we've got enough spare time to do the things we really love doing. We enjoy spending time with our four grandkids (pictured above), and also like camping, fishing and boating. As a hobby, we're into woodcrafting and participate in local craft shows and community fairs. We're also both active and involved in our church.
Born and raised in Chicago, my southside neighborhood was home to many different nationalities. Friends and neighbors regularly shared great food and recipes and I enjoy preparing dishes from different ethnic backgrounds.
Favorite foods for me would be what I consider "comfort foods". Takes me back to my childhood days. Things like slow-cooked pot roast with vegetables, mashed potatoes and gravy; or a hearty beef stew like mom made, along with bread or biscuits to dunk and a huge glass of ice cold milk. On the other hand; give me a good steak, baked potato and green salad and I'm happy as a clam! Ummm, can you tell I'm NOT a vegetarian?
As far as a dish I'm famous for making in my family, I would probably have to say it is Kugelis. It is a Lithuanian dish described by many as a "potato pudding", but not the same consistency. It's baked, cut into oblong pieces and served with sour cream. Definitely good eats!
