I'm a 20something living in the fabulous Boston area, where I can enjoy tremendous culture and resources, but still come home at night to a quiet suburban neighborhood just outside of town.
As someone who juggles a full-time job, regular volunteer work, occasional classes and a busy social life, I'm always trying to figure out efficient ways to fit cooking into my life. Good food is one of my greatest pleasures and I have a lot of fun playing in the kitchen, but have to balance it against the rest of my life. I'm hoping this website will help me improve those skills and that I can contribute my own, too.
Well, first, I'm a vegetarian of over 13 years. I'm lacto-ovo, which means I do eat dairy products and eggs, but no seafood or meat.
I tend to prefer ethnic foods, especially Indian, Middle Eastern/North African, and Thai and other Southeast Asian cuisines. However, I am still quite a ways from being very good at cooking these!
My can't live without 'em list that I either eat or cook with fanatically is good fresh tomatoes, garlic, avocadoes, beans (especially black and garbanzo), eggs, and tofu. I love me some tasty carbs and rank the four mighty starches as follows: potatoes, pasta, rice, and bread. My favorite dessert is cake - I'd happily give up cookies, ice cream, and the rest if I could just have good cake a couple times a week. I don't really like to bake but I'm trying to embrace it more!
