An avid cook since age 12, there's nothing I enjoy so much as cooking and sharing recipes with other home chefs. I enjoy making just about anything in the kitchen; if I had to pin myself down, though, I'd most likely identify as a baker. While studying in France, I seized the opportunity to take cuisine courses and got great exposure to pastry techniques. I travel abroad extensively, always incessantly joting notes about what I ate, unusual finds in the grocery stores or markets, and, best of all, new recipes I've learned from local acquaintances I've met.
As a relatively young and inexperienced cook, my current goals in the kitchen are geared towards perfecting the basics: bread, sauces, pastry, etc. So far, I think I can claim success with Pie Crust (over the summer I refined a delectable recipe), Chocolate Chip Cookies (accomplished just two weeks ago), Pancakes (approved and relished by my boyfriend, a true diner connesseiur), and a lovely, birthday-party appropriate Chocolate Cake.
Now I'm on to more wholesome items. I would like to find great recipes for corn bread, regular white bread, a simple French bread, and tortillas. Away from the oven, as a recent convert from Vegetarianism to an omniverous diet, I have a lot to learn about preparing meat. I hope to learn how to cook a perfect steak, old-fashioned pot roast, delicate fish and lamb (one of my favorites).
If you have great recipes for any of the items on my wish list, please let me know!
