My husband and I are retired and we live in Pine Mountain Club, CA. Our elevation here is 5,520 feet, so I have to make some adjustments to certain recipes. I enjoy cooking, especially in the winter. Maybe that is why "Cold Weather Cooking" by Sarah Leah Chase is my favorite cookbook. Her recipes are "real" and always turn out just right.
I also like to quilt, and used to work part time in a quilt shop. I belong to a group of quilters that gets together once a month for a day of quilting and eating a potluck lunch, which is always delicious.
We love flavorful soups. My pressure cooker is the best for these. I freeze the leftovers in serving size portions. I have loved lasagna since I was a child, but have not found my absolute favorite recipe yet. Still trying! One of our favorite meals is cold whole Dungeness crab. We cover our picnic table with newspapers and put out a pile of the cooked crabs complete with nutcrackers, bibs, and buckets for shells. Several kinds of salad and some garlic bread complete the meal. One of our favorite restaurants is Saddle Peak Lodge just off Malibu Canyon Road. We also enjoy the Cracked Crab in Pismo Beach.
