Occupation: Business Master's Degree student at the world's northernmost university
Passions: Cooking, baking, language, business
Fave cookbooks: The Best Recipe, Baker's Apprentice, Cookwise
Pet peeves: Lack of fresh ingredients and healthy alternatives in the far north, people not rinsing out or soaking things they leave in the sink, perfectly good food being thrown away
Fave dishes to make: anything yummy and nutritious, be it quick and easy or time-consuming and labor-intensive.
Famous for:
Cali - Hamburger Nights, salsa, creme caramel (flan)
Japan - mabo tofu, chinjaoroosu, chicken mushroom fried rice
Norway - puddings, breads, "Hot Pockets"
Fave restaurants:
Cali - Shinsengumi Ramen, Outback Steakhouse, CPK
Japan - 105 yen sushi bars, the red ramen shop in Beppu
Norway - none... Norwegians sadly don't seem to take advantage of the fresh seafood, berries, and other such foods native to the land. Dining out = disappointing and sodium-laden
JAPANESE
Hamachi nigiri sushi, sake nigiri sushi, chashu hakata ramen, higamugi to tsuyu, tonkatsu, Vermont curry

raw plain red bell peppers, raw plain cherry tomatoes, sweetened plain yogurt, cottage cheese with blueberries and bananas, pan-fried tofu with soy sauce, sunny-side-up egg on bread with cracked pepper and sea salt, fresh-baked breads and sweet breads, hot oatmeal cooked in milk with raisins and almonds, tomato omelets, veggie sandwiches with a just a smidgen of ranch and mustard spread on a hearty bread - avocado slices and alfalfa sprouts are a must! Hmm... looking at this list, I could probably go veggie with no problem - if it weren't for the insane cost and generally poor quality of produce that makes it to the far north. Sigh... ![]()
