We always have a shopping cart packed with goodies weekly at the local Grocer we have patroned for the last five years. When we first moved to the Urban Center from the "sticks" the grocery clerks thought we had a family of five.... No just us two, we just don't believe in eating out all the time.
We have owned a 22 cubic foot deep freeze since 1999. This really helps on the food bill. For example I love bacon, but with the price approaching $3.00 a pound we nixed it out of the budget. In mid December the butcher closed out 10 pounds of "hand sliced bacon @ $1.29 a pound .. now I'm back in the bacon biz.
Other savings venues we have learned:
buy in bulk orange ruffie, frozen vegtables, orange juice and other fast consuming items.
Get to know your butcher & sea food counter manager. We know what time of day and have a good idea what will be on undvertised close out. Rarely do we pay over $1.99 lb for ground sirloin, $3.99 for Strip steak , $4.99 for Rib Roast & $6.99 for Beef Tenderloin.(12/17/08)
