I love to cook and entertain but would consider myself an average cook who aspires to be excellent. What's an excellent cook to me? Someone who can look in the cupboard and put together a delicious meal from seamingly nothing, someone who can take an average recipe and make something extraordinary, someone who has a great knowledge of herbs and seasonings (an excellent cook knows that nutmeg goes great with spinach!) and finally, someone who turns out meals that taste as if they took all day but are really very simple.
I'm not famous for any dishes... but someday... who knows..
I had a jicama salad at a restaurant that's no longer in business in Fort Worth Texas. I long to figure out how to recreate that salad. It was delicious!
I enjoy hiding ingredients in recipes people in my family swear they hate. Sounds harsh but it's not. I really think what happens is they try something one way, don't like and swear off that ingredient forever. Most usually, the offender is a veggie. I have yet to play "hide the veggie" and get a negative response. I'll keep you apprised!
