I have learned virtually everything I know about cooking from my parents (who cook as a hobby), and my brother who studied at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. They started me off watching Jeff Smith: The Frugal Gourmet, at like age 5, I swear! I have a pretty distinguished/cultured pallet, as I have accompanied my parents to fine-dining restaurants since I was very young. One of my most famous childhood stories: I was about 7 years old, and my parents and I had gone to a restaurant where I was served a slice of "Kahlua cake"...however, the dessert chef had run out of Kahlua and substituted Amaretto. I was not only able to tell the waiter that the cake did not have Kahlua in it, but also identified Amaretto as the substitute!
I am now a twenty-something, college graduate, working a full-time corporate job. I try to stick to recipes that are quick & easy. I've been trying to incorporate a few more health-conscious recipes into my collection, which is what brought me to recipezaar.com (if anyone has suggestions, feel free to send me an email) - especially if it's on the spicy side.
